Description

Groove on the Grass presents Underworld (live), Leftfield (DJ set) and more at Emirates Golf Club on Friday 8 February 2019.

Underworld
Underworld are a Welsh electronic music group formed in 1980 by Karl Hyde and Rick Smith.

After initial incarnation as a funk and synth-pop band, resulting in two albums between 1988–1989, Underworld gained prominence, after reshaping in 1993, into the progressive house and techno act.

They went onto release seven subsequent albums, including critically acclaimed dubnobasswithmyheadman (1994), Second Toughest in the Infants (1996), and the signature 1996 single "Born Slippy .NUXX".

Known for visual style and dynamic live performances, Underworld have influenced a wide range of artists and been featured in soundtracks and scores for films, television, and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Leftfield
Leftfield – Neil Barnes and Paul Daley – one of electronic music’s all time greatest acts – have announced the release of Leftism 22 a very special reissue of their seminal debut album Leftism and a UK tour where Leftfield (now led solely by Neil Barnes) will perform the record in full.

Leftfield was formed in 1989, before emerging publicly in 1990 with Not Forgotten, a song that established a template for a new strain of British house leaning away from American styles dominating UK clubs.

Released in January 1995, their debut album Leftism remains one of the defining statements of dance music, a gloriously inter-woven bombardment of musical styles and immaculate grooves.

The album was nominated for a Mercury prize and later voted in the top ten greatest albums of all time by readers of Q magazine.

The album spawned numerous hit singles in Open Up – their now legendary collaboration with John Lydon; Original, featuring Curve’s Toni Halliday; Release the Pressure, featuring Earl Sixteen; and Afro-Left, with vocals by Neil Cole, aka Djum Djum.

Throughout the 90s Leftfield were untouchable live and on record, starting a snowball rolling for British dance music alongside outfits like Orbital, Underworld and the Dust / Chemical Brothers in breaking electronic music from the underground, onto the stage and into the charts.

They have always been regarded as one of electronic music’s defining live acts.
