The Irish Village presents British R&B, acid jazz and funk heavyweights The Brand New Heavies together with acid punk band The Blow Monkeys Live in Dubai on Thursday 24 October 2019.
The Brand New Heavies began in the 1980s as an instrumental acid jazz group called Brothers International.
The group came up with the Heavies name after signing their first record contract, borrowing from a liner note on a James Brown single declaring the artist "Minister of New Super Heavy Funk".
They gained a cult following in the London club scene and soon signed to a record deal as acid jazz replaced rare groove in clubs.
Support comes from The Blow Monkeys, a British new wave/sophisti-pop band that formed in 1981.
The first single, Live Today Love Tomorrow was released in 1982. They subsequently enjoyed a successful career with several hit singles including Digging your Scene and It Doesn't Have to Be This Way as well as albums across the 1980s.
After a split in 1990, they reformed in 2007 and have since released five more albums.
