The Permanent Way by David Hare (2003)

at Warehouse Four | Al Quoz

Description

Dubai Drama Group brings David Hare's classic play The Permanent Way to Warehouse Four from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 May 2021.

Mark your calendars – our next production is coming up this summer from Dubai’s longest-running theatre group!

David Hare’s “The Permanent Way” (2003) will be directed by Catherine Broad and explores the tragic consequences when the interests of profits versus public safety collide.

ABOUT THE PLAY:
In 1991, the British government decided to privatise the country’s railways. “The Permanent Way” recounts the consequences of such a decision through a collation of powerful first-hand accounts of those most intimately involved.

From passengers to railway workers to government ministers, their voices bear witness to a story of government mismanagement, blame-shifting and diversion – a theme that is, sadly, very universal.

Inspired by Ian Jack’s book “The Crash That Stopped Britain”, the play is a piece of verbatim theatre based on numerous interviews of the people involved.

Incidents covered in the play include the passing of the Railways Act 1993 which set out the structure of rail privatisation, and the survival and bereavement stories resulting from the rail crashes of Southall, Ladbroke Grove, Hatfield, and Potters Bar.

You will laugh, cry and ponder as they share their experiences in this socially-distanced production.

Age is limited to 14 years and older.
