Description

The Emirates NBD Classics VII presents Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan & Ajay Prasanna perform live in an awe inspiring Jugalbandi at DUCTAC on Friday 27 April 2018.

Emirates NBD بنك الإمارات دبي الوطني proudly presents classical JUGALBANDI for the first time in Dubai.

A jugalbandi or jugalbandhi is a performance in Indian classical music, especially in Hindustani classical music, that features a duet of two solo musicians.

The word jugalbandi means, literally, "entwined twins." The duet can be either vocal or instrumental.

Often, the musicians will play different instruments

Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan
Shujaat Husain Khan is one of the greatest North Indian classical musicians of his generation.

He belongs to the Imdad Khan gharana of the sitar and his style of playing sitar, known as the gayaki ang, is imitative of the subtleties of the human voice.

Shujaat Khan's musical pedigree extends seven generations. He is the son and disciple of the great sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan, and his grandfather, Ustad Inayat Khan, his great-grandfather, Ustad Imdad Khan, and his great-great-grandfather, Ustad Sahebdad Khan, were all leading artists of their respective generations.

Khan's musical career began at the age of three when he began practicing on a specially made small sitar. By the age of six, he was recognised as a child prodigy and began giving public performances.

Shujaat Khan has performed at all the prestigious music festivals in India and has performed throughout Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe.

Audiences around the world are captivated by his unique style of sitar playing, his exceptional voice, and his intuitive and spontaneous approach to rhythm.

He has recorded over 60 albums and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best World Music Album for his work with the band Ghazal with Iranian musicians.

He is also known as a fearless collaborator.

Ajay Shankar Prasanna
Ajay Shankar Prasanna is an Indian classical flautist and hails from a family of classical musicians.

He received his training in flute from his Guru and father, Pandit Bholanath Prasanna, from the Banaras Gharana, who is also the Guru of Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia.

Ajay Prasanna started his training in Indian classical music at a tender age of three years by simply observing his father play the flute and teach his students.

An ardent listener, a great observer and an extremely fast learner, Ajay developed an immense ability to innovate any raga keeping the traditionalist approach intact by observing his father's lessons.

Ajay Prasanna has wooed audiences in his magnificent solo performances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London as well as in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Bangkok, Kenya, Russia and many other countries.

His great mastery over the extended techniques of flute playing has led him to the world’s best performances. Until today he carries forward the great legacy of his Guru and Father, Pandit Bholanath Prasanna.

He continues to inspire many students to learn Hindustani classical music and spends every moment of his life dedicated towards his ever growing passion for music.

Come and Witness the legendary Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan along with his son Azan Khan and Ajay Prasanna Live in concert.

Enjoy a never-before-seen performance of the two legends side by side – only at the The Emirates NBD Classics Season 7.
