The second programme in the 2018 season of Music in the Studio features famed Mexican guitarist Mauricio Díaz Álvarez performing a captivating programme of works from Spain and across Latin America on Wednesday 21 February 2018.

Inspired by his roots, the award-winning artist will be performing music by Albeniz, Villa-Lobos, Ponce, Tárrega and other Latin American composers.


Mauricio Díaz Álvarez
Born in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1973, Mauricio Díaz Álvarez started studying guitar and music at the age of eight in Mexico.

He moved to Spain where he pursued his degree at the Real Conservatorio de Música de Madrid graduating with honours under the instruction of renowned Spanish guitarist Gabriel Estarellas.

Mauricio Díaz is now considered one of the most talented guitarists of his generation.

In recent years, he recorded three CDs: tribute to Marcel Proust (contemporary guitar 2009), and with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Quéretaro (Mexico), the Concerto of Aranjuez de Joaquin Rodrigo (2010) and the concert de M.M.Ponce (2010 ).

In 2004, he was chosen as a judge for the XVI Doña Infanta Cristina International Guitar Competition accompanied by renowned composers Anton García Abril and Tomás Marco.

Mauricio is lecturer of music and has delivered masterclasses in prestigious universities such as the Music Conservatory of Moscow, the Music Conservatory of Dourdan (Paris France), Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG, Mexico), the Music Conservatory of Rabat (Morocco), several Spanish universities in the province of Castilla la Mancha.

He has also given frequent lectures in Spanish and Latin American guitar history at the Instituto Cervantes in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan, among others.

Mauricio was appointed by the Cervantes Institute’s headquarters in Madrid, Artistic Director at the International Guitar Festivals in Rabat and the Canary Islands in 2004, followed by Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan the following year.

After a sold out first season in 2017, Music in the Studio returns for a much anticipated second season with six world class performances.

Curated by internationally renowned pianist, Amira Fouad, Music in the Studio is set in our acoustically flawless Dubai Opera Studio located on the second floor within Dubai Opera, allowing for a more atmospheric and unmissable experience between the musicians and their audiences.

Tickets are on sale now either by the single performance or Regular Season Pass where you buy tickets for 4 performances and you only pay for 3; or Ultimate Season Pass where you purchase a ticket for all 6 performances and you only pay for 4.
